The two letter date codes are located on the bottom of slide near the muzzle area, it'll be accompanied by a couple of other proofmarks. Aug 22, 2011 AD29XXX-?/94.357 sig Bought used (unfired). DOUBLE serial # (frame/barrel). Not sure if the previous owner swapped out the possible serial numbered slide with a different non serial numbered one but the gun itself was in new condition and unfired. I don't believe SIG started putting DE on the barrels until around 2009. I also don't think SIG started using E2 grips til around the same time. Your 2003 SIG would not have come from the factory with E2 grips, or a barrel with DE on it. The 'Elite' models didn't come out until later, also. This means the slide is probably not original to the frame. Elite models also have the extended beavertail. I'm guessing yours does not have this. This leads me to believe your gun is either a Frankensig, or more likely was a CPO (certified pre-owned). I have seen CPO guns with many non-original parts. Did your gun by any chance come with a red box or case? That's the tell tale sign it's CPO. Anyhow, it's still a SIG, and probably a great shooter. |
